Victor Swift asks in his article 'What have we now' which is all doom, gloom and despondency.
Isn't this something like the situation in the middle 1960's when, after the very bad winter's trade many commercial boaters left the cut, which was then left to rack and ruin?
In the mean time we have seen a number of canals brought back to life albeit with a lot of volunteer labour. What goes around comes around.
